Peter Newell on the Business of Climate Transition

Solvable New Works is a series of perspective-shifting conversations free and open to all. On June 3rd, we’ll be joined by the esteemed professor, researcher, and writer Peter Newell to discuss his recently published article, “The business of rapid transition.” His research explores the urgency and speed of change required by businesses in the face of the climate emergency and asks how we might accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon economy. Newell advocates for the 1.5°C target to be actively incorporated into all business planning from product and service design to expansion and growth plans, innovation and governance, including CEO and board-level responsibility for the climate footprint of the company. Based on his extensive research, Newell will discuss his views on how to achieve the sustainability transformation of business.

Peter Newell is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Sussex and co-founder and research director of the Rapid Transition Alliance. He has undertaken research, advocacy, and consultancy work on different aspects of climate change for over 25 years and on energy transitions for the last 10 years. Peter has authored/co-authored myriad articles and five books—Global Green Politics being his most recent. He sits on the board of directors of Greenpeace UK and is on the advisory board of the Greenhouse think-tank.
