Leslie Davenport on Emotional Climate Resilience

Solvable New Works is a series of perspective-shifting conversations free and open to all. On May 20th, we’ll be joined by integrative psychotherapist Leslie Davenport to discuss how our emotions can advance creative and effective solutions to climate change by building our resilience. Although the environmental and physical effects of climate change have long been recognized, little attention has been given to the profound impact on mental health. In her book Emotional Resiliency in the Era of Climate Change, Leslie shares comprehensive theory, strategies, and resources for addressing key clinical themes specific to the psychological impact of climate change. In her review, Joanna Macy said “This is a book of rare significance...it recognizes that climate change and action let us experience our unity with all life, and serve as a catalyst for collective transformation.” Leslie will also discuss adapting her work to help young adults manage their climate anxiety and work towards positive change.

Leslie Davenport is a climate psychology educator and consultant exploring the intersectionality of climate, economics, and policy. Leslie is the author of four books including the forthcoming All the Feelings Under the Sun: How to Deal With Climate Change—an illustrated adaptation of Emotional Resiliency in the Era of Climate Change for young readers. She is on the faculty of the California Institute of Integral Studies, Master’s program in Professional Psychology and Health, and contributor to the American Psychological Association and Project InsideOut.
