Julia Kim on Well-being & Gross national happiness

Solvable New Works is a series of perspective-shifting conversations free and open to all. On May 6th, we’ll be joined by researcher, global health practitioner, and sustainable development specialist Julia Kim to discuss the possibilities of metrics, nations, and economies centred on well-being rather than GDP. As the author of two 2021 articles on sustainable well-being and happiness, Kim examines her work with Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness Index and scientific research on well-being to expand the possibilities of measurement and its effects on mindset, narrative, strategy, and policy. She asks us to consider what a consciousness shift combined with systems change could do to advance companies, economies, and society.

Julia Kim is the Program Director of the Gross National Happiness Centre Bhutan, which aims to promote well-being economies based on human flourishing, in balance with nature. She previously worked as a global health & development advisor in Africa & Asia, as well as the UN in New York. Julia is a member of the Club of Rome, the International Expert Working Group for a New Development Paradigm, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the Presencing Institute.
